Two days ago was my 21st birthday. Nothing fancy, just a small celebration sa bahay namin after our classes, so I invited some of my classmates and friends. One of them was her—I'll call her A. We've known each other for almost four years now. Classmates kami since SHS, hanggang ngayon sophomore year na kami sa college, same program. She's one of my closest friends, and honestly, sanay na sanay na ako sa presence niya. Lagi kaming magkasama sa activities, projects, extracurriculars, and basically anything ******-related. She's also someone I've helped a lot academically, especially kapag nahihirapan siya sa subjects namin, and even with personal problems, madalas niya rin akong kinakausap. In return, sobrang comfortable kami sa isa't isa.
For context, I'm probably what you'd call a soft boy. Hindi ako yung typical na super masculine or barako type. I like K-pop, arts, female pop artists, and reading books. I've always said I'm straight, and as far as relationships go, wala pa talaga akong naging girlfriend. Not because I don't like girls, wala lang talaga akong nakikitang gusto kong seryosohin. A is pretty, obviously, and she's always been comfortable enough around me to joke about basically anything. We even talk about NSFW topics sometimes and make jokes that probably wouldn't make sense to other people. She'd tease me about being small and sometimes challenge me jokingly like, “Pakita mo nga sakin tite mo kung matapang ka,” and I'd answer, “Sige pero susubo mo ha.” Obviously, joke lang naman yun. At least that's what I kept telling myself.
The thing is, I've actually wondered about her too. Not necessarily in a serious romantic way, but I've had those random thoughts that you don't tell your best friend because things might get awkward. Sometimes I'd catch myself wondering what it would be like if one of our stupid jokes actually became real. Then I'd immediately shut the thought down because she's my best friend and I didn't want to ruin what we had.
Anyway, birthday ko nga. After classes, pumunta yung classmates namin sa bahay. Naligo na ako and changed clothes before everyone arrived. May food, cake, gifts, usual birthday stuff. Walang alak because may pasok pa kinabukasan, and we didn't want to stay up too late. Everyone gave me their gifts, except A. So syempre inasar ko siya. “Saan na regalo ko, bitch?” sabi ko habang tumatawa. She just rolled her eyes and said, “Mamaya ko bigay sayo, maghintay ka.” I didn't think much of it. Akala ko wala lang talaga siyang time bumili.
After a few hours, isa-isa nang umalis yung classmates and friends namin. Naiwan siya kasi hinihintay pa niya yung dad ko to drive her home after nilang kumain ni Mama.
I asked. She apologized and asked if okay lang daw kahit hindi yung Aespa poster na gusto ko because she didn't have time to find one. Sinabi ko naman na hindi ko kailangan ng gift from her, enough na yung cake na dala nila. Pero sabi niya gusto niya raw bumawi because I've helped her so much, especially with ****** and personal stuff.
Then she said something that completely caught me off guard.
“Mag-thank you nga ako eh, in my own way sana, if okay lang sayo.”
I laughed and asked, “Paanong own way?”
Then she looked at me, started blushing, and said, “Blowjob kita. Gusto mo?”
I literally froze.
I stared at her for maybe fifteen seconds because I couldn't figure out whether she was joking or not. She was laughing and obviously embarrassed, but she didn't look like she was completely kidding. So I told her, “Nangti-trip ka na naman. Umuwi ka na nga.”
But she doubled down.
“Totoo nga. Sayo muna temporarily bibig ko if gusto mo.”
*******.
At that point, my brain was going a hundred miles per hour. I asked her if she was actually serious and if she was sure. I told her that if she really meant it, I wasn't going to decline.
She stood up, locked the door, and basically confirmed that she wasn't joking.
I don't think either of us really knew what we were doing anymore. We'd spent years joking about stuff like this, but suddenly it wasn't a joke. There was an awkward silence, then she came closer, and the tension between us became very obvious.
I was nervous as hell because this was A. My best friend. The person I've known for almost four years. The girl who used to casually make dirty jokes with me without either of us taking them seriously. And now she was standing in front of me, actually serious about what she'd just offered.
Things escalated from there, and eventually we crossed that line we'd always joked about. I'm not even going to pretend I wasn't affected by it because I absolutely was. It was surreal. At one point I remember thinking, *******, this is actually happening.
The whole thing was over before I could even properly process it. Afterward, we were both just sitting there trying to act normal, which was honestly hilarious considering what had just happened.
She eventually laughed and said, “Happy birthday.”
I laughed too because what else was I supposed to do?
“That's the best birthday gift I've ever gotten,” I told her.
She just smiled and told me she was happy she could finally repay me for everything I'd done for her. We cleaned ourselves up, I changed back into my shorts, and eventually my dad called us because it was time to drive her home.
The funniest part was during the car ride, my dad randomly asked me when I was finally going to get a girlfriend. I just stayed quiet because obviously I couldn't exactly explain what had happened upstairs. A was sitting there trying not to laugh while I was probably red as hell.
My dad then started asking her about her plans after college, so we just had normal conversation the whole way.
When she got home, she messaged me.
She thanked me for being cool about everything and said she didn't think she'd ever forget what happened. She admitted that it had actually changed the way she looked at me a little, and then confessed something that honestly surprised me even more: apparently, whenever we'd make those stupid NSFW jokes before, she'd sometimes wonder what it would actually be like if they became real.
I told her she was insane and reminded her that it was supposed to be a one-time birthday thing. She laughed and agreed, although she also admitted that she'd wondered about me too.
Then we both basically said goodnight and agreed not to overthink it.
Except obviously, I overthought it.
The next day at ******, everything seemed normal. She didn't act weird, I didn't act weird, and we went back to our usual routine. I even bought her a matcha latte like I normally would. But I'll be honest—the vibe felt different. Not necessarily awkward. Just… different.
There was this unspoken thing between us now that hadn't been there before.
And while we were talking like normal, I kept remembering what happened the night before and thinking, *******, I really did that with my best friend.
I don't know what happens next. We haven't talked about whether it meant anything beyond that night, and honestly, I'm not sure either of us is ready to define it.
But if I'm being completely honest with myself, I don't think I hated it.
And judging by the way she was acting the next day, I don't think she did either. HAHAHAHA.
