THE NIGHT I FELL FOR A STRANGER

I never believed in love at first sight until I met him.

It was raining that Friday night when I decided to spend a few hours at a small café near my apartment. I was tired of pretending I was okay, tired of failed relationships, and honestly, tired of being the only person who seemed to care too much.

That was when he walked in.

Tall, wearing a black shirt with the sleeves folded just below his elbows, and carrying the kind of smile that made you wonder how many hearts he had broken without even trying.

Our eyes met for a second.

He smiled.

I looked away.

A few minutes later, someone pulled out the chair across from me.

"Is this seat taken?"

I looked up. It was him.

"Depends," I replied, trying to sound confident. "Are you always this comfortable sitting with strangers?"

"Only when the stranger looks like she needs someone to talk to."

I laughed. "And you think you're that someone?"

"I'd like the chance to prove it."

We talked for hours. About our favorite songs, childhood memories, heartbreaks, and the kind of love we secretly hoped still existed. He told me his name was Adrian. I told him mine, and somehow, saying it aloud in his presence felt different.

When the café announced it was closing, neither of us wanted to leave.

He offered to walk me home.

Under the streetlights, our shoulders brushed occasionally. Every time they did, I felt a strange warmth in my chest.

Before we reached my building, he stopped.

"Can I see you again?"

I pretended to think about it.

"Maybe."

"Maybe?" he repeated, laughing.

"You'll have to give me a better reason."

He stepped a little closer, his eyes searching mine.

"Because I have a feeling that if I leave tonight without asking, I'll spend the next few days wishing I hadn't."

For once, I had nothing clever to say.

So I gave him my number.

The following days became a beautiful little routine. Good morning messages. Late-night calls. Random pictures of things that reminded us of each other. He remembered the smallest details I mentioned, even the coffee I liked and the song I played whenever I felt sad.

And slowly, without realizing it, I started looking forward to him.

Not just his messages.

Him.

Two weeks later, he invited me to dinner at his apartment. He cooked pasta, burned the garlic bread, and blamed the oven like it had personally betrayed him.

I laughed so hard that tears filled my eyes.

"You're enjoying this way too much," he said.

"You're a terrible chef."

"But you still came."

"Unfortunately."

He grinned. "Then I'll have to impress you in other ways."

The room went quiet.

His smile softened, and suddenly, the space between us felt smaller.

He reached for my hand.

"Can I kiss you?"

I looked at him, at the man who had somehow made ordinary days feel special.

"Yes."

His kiss was gentle at first, almost hesitant, as though he was giving me time to change my mind. But when I moved closer, he wrapped his arms around me, and I felt a kind of warmth I hadn't known I was missing.

There was no rush. No pressure. Just the quiet sound of rain against the windows and the feeling that, for once, I was exactly where I wanted to be.

When we finally pulled apart, he rested his forehead against mine.

"Tell me something," he whispered.

"What?"

"Are you always this difficult to impress?"

I smiled.

"Only when someone matters."

His expression changed.

"And do I matter?"

I touched his cheek.

"More than you know."

He kissed me again, and for the first time in a long while, I wasn't thinking about how things might end.

I was thinking about how lucky I was that they had begun.

But just as I was beginning to believe that Adrian might be the person I had been waiting for, his phone lit up on the table.

A message appeared.

"She still doesn't know the truth about you, does she?"

I stared at the screen.

Adrian went completely still.

And suddenly, the man I thought I was falling in love with felt like a stranger all over again.

"Adrian," I whispered, pulling away. "What truth?"

He looked at me, his eyes filled with something I couldn't understand.

Regret.

"I'm sorry," he said quietly. "There's something I should have told you from the beginning."

And just like that, the most beautiful night of my life became the beginning of a secret I never saw coming.

TO BE CONTINUED… ❤️‍🔥

Would you forgive Adrian without knowing the whole truth, or would you walk away before your heart gets broken?
