Dexie stared at the text message on her phone, her brow furrowing in deep concentration.
Jr: Hey babe, bring your appetite tonight. I made a special reservation, and later... let's just say I’ve got a massive surprise waiting in the bedroom.

Dexie chuckled, shaking her head. She and Jr had been together for two years, and while their romance was undeniable, their attempt at being "suave and dangerous" usually ended in absolute comedy.
When Dexie arrived at Jr’s apartment that evening, the vibe was set to full romantic overdrive. Dim lighting, scented candles, and smooth jazz playing softly in the background. Jr was leaning against the kitchen counter, wearing an unbuttoned silk shirt and giving her his best smoldering look.
"Welcome," Jr purred, stepping forward to wrap his arms around her waist. He leaned in close, whispering in her ear, "Are you ready for an unforgettable night?"
"Only if that surprise involves pizza," Dexie teased, playfully gently slapping his cheek.
"Even better," Jr whispered, planting a passionate kiss on her lips.
The spark was instantly there. The teasing comments melted away as Jr lifted her up, and Dexie wrapped her legs around his waist. They stumbled toward the bedroom, giggling between kisses, full of wild enthusiasm.
Jr dramatically kicked the bedroom door open, spun Dexie around, and gently tossed her onto the mattress. He struck a heroic pose, taking his shirt off with one smooth motion—only to immediately lose his footing on a stray throw pillow.
CRASH.
Jr went down like a sack of flour, his elbow knocking over the bedside lamp, which plunged the room into complete darkness.
Silence hung in the air for two full seconds.
"Jr?" Dexie called out into the void, trying desperately not to laugh. "Are you alive?"
"My pride is dead," Jr’s voice came groaningly from the floor near the closet. "My hip is critical. But visually? I looked great right up until the pillow betrayed me."
Dexie burst out laughing, turning on her phone flashlight to shine it on him. Jr was sprawling on the rug, tangled in a laundry basket, but still trying to look charming by resting his head on his hand.
"You really know how to sweep a girl off her feet," Dexie wheezed, wiping a tear from her eye. "Or, well, sweep yourself off your own feet."
"Hey, the ambiance was perfect!" Jr protested, sitting up and dusting himself off. "The universe just hates my sultry moves."
Dexie crawled to the edge of the bed and extended a hand to pull him up. "Forget the sultry moves. I like the clumsy version better anyway."
Jr smiled, climbing onto the bed beside her. The awkwardness dissolved into genuine warmth as he leaned in, kissing her softly on the forehead, then her lips, much slower and sweeter this time.
"So," Dexie whispered, nudging his shoulder, "is this where the surprise happens?"
"Well," Jr grinned, pulling a warm box out from under his side of the bed, "I did order extra garlic knots."
Dexie gasped in genuine delight. "Okay, now that is true love."
They spent the rest of the night propped up against the pillows, sharing pizza, laughing about the tragic demise of the bedside lamp, and finding that the best moments together were always the ones they never planned.
